Dental patients often look for tooth replacement options when they have lost a tooth or have a damaged tooth that needs to be extracted. Tooth pain can be absolutely debilitating, and when it strikes, patients want relief. However, it’s important to realize that tooth replacement options are to replace a damaged tooth.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the most preferred restorative dental treatment. They replace both the visible part of the tooth (crown) and the root (implant).

Dental implants are surgically implanted in the jawbone. After a period of healing, they integrate with the bone to form a stable base for artificial teeth.

Implants are extremely versatile and can be used to replace a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns come in a variety of materials. Patients can choose from gold, porcelain, composite resin, or zirconia.

Zirconia is the strongest and longest-lasting option, but it also the most expensive. Gold is slightly cheaper, but will still last for up to 15 years. Porcelain and composite resin are the most affordable options, but will not last as long as those other two materials.

No matter what type of crown you choose, you can expect the dental procedure to last around two hours.

Once the crown is complete, patients will be able to chew and speak normally. However, they may notice a temporary difference in their bite. Any issues with bite should be reported to the office immediately.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a permanent restoration that can replace a missing tooth. It fills in the space of a missing tooth and prevents surrounding teeth from shifting out of place. Dental bridges can be made from gold, porcelain, or zirconium.

Dentures

Dentures are one of the more cost-effective restorative dental treatments. They must also take care to keep the dentures from breaking or cracking. A good set of dentures can last a patient for many years. Patients must be thorough with their oral hygiene so that the dentures do not become infected.
